Crazy Cam checks out... A Wash-Matik
This year at the kitcar show I bought a wash-matik. This is basically a car cleaning bit of kit that uses a syphon action. I decided to put it to the test!
|
The wash-matik comes in a bag of parts that you need to assemble yourself. At the kitcar show there was a special offer on - and I got the extension handle for free. Since I'm a big chap I don't actually need it, but my wife or the kids might. |

The clever bit inside the wash-matik is this little valve, it stops the water getting back into the bucket...
The first thing I needed was a dirty car. Purely by coincidence I happened to have one parked on my drive!

The next thing I needed was a bucket of soapy water. I had to clean dead wood lice out of my bucket first.
What you do is place the special valve into the bucket and pump it up and down. (trying not to splash water every where) Next clip the pipe to the bucket and lay the rest on the floor. The syphon action will draw water to the brush. Cool!

The scrubbing motion of the brush keeps the water flowing through the pipe. It took less that a bucket of soapy water to clean this dirty car!
To rinse the car you need some clean water in your bucket. You start off the syphon in the same manner then place the bucket on the roof. Use some old rags to stop scratches. The water then flows like a normal hose to rinse the car.

It took two buckets to rinse the car - that's three in total. A big saving in water - and it's clean water all the time. No putting a dirty sponge back into the clean soapy water!. The syphon action seemed to work ok - on a few occasions I had to lay the hose down to get it started again, and the hose kept kinking near the brush. Maybe my water was too hot. Next time I'll try cooler.

In all the wash-matik was quick and easy to use, loads cheaper than the car wash, and did a reasonable job. If you want one - then go the kitcar show next year, or you can get one from Selkin Limited for twice the price.
