Crazy Cam checks out... The National Kitcar Show 2005

Yet another year, yet another kitcar show. It was at The Royal Agricultural Show Ground, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire on the 1st and 2nd of May. I went with my brother Alastair and our Dad on Sunday the 1st of May.

By the power of mobile phones, my nice Bluetooth hands free kit and Multimap's excellent maps we managed to meet in the same car park again this year and within 10 minutes of each other! Over coffee we decided to follow the same plan as every year - do the halls with the trade stands in the morning and look at the cars in the afternoon after lunch.

A blue buggy

I'm not too sure what this is - it is beetle based but like most beetle based cars I see it didn't have a VW engine in it...

A blue buggy

It had a hard top on - even though it was a nice sunny day. I wonder what it would have looked like topless ;)
I haven't got a clue what the big white thing is in the photo... never mind.

Hummer kit

Woo and yay! At last a Hummer kit. This is based on a range rover and is big. I mean BIG. If you want one then contact Action Automotive on 0208 977 2223.

Hummer kit

This car had a plywood roof and looked like it had been thrown together just in time for the show. There's nothing wrong with that and it gave as a chance to look more closely at it's constuction. One to watch in the future I think.

Retoga

This is a Retoga from Kellforms. It's a little different from the average Lotus 7 clone you see here.

Reverse box and diff in one!

There is a bike engine in there, but what caught my attention was the combined differential and reverse box with direct drive - very nice but then it should be at £3000 a pop.

A low cost lolocost chassis

£455 + VAT will buy you this low-cost chassis from Lolocost. I think this is a real bargain when compared to some other kits...

Project 2B

£3000 + VAT will buy you this from Robin Hood Sports Cars. It's a Project 2B and only requires a Ford Sierra as a donor in addition to the kit. This is a kind of half way stage between the lolocost and the really expensive kits.

ABS Freestyle chassis

£795.00 + VAT will buy you this ABS Freestyle chassis from Funbuggies. I like these and if I had the money I'd get one - or maybe two.

ABS Freestyle

Here are some more Freestyles, they seem to have gained in popularity this year. All good.

Spare wheel rack

We particularly liked the spare wheel rack on this car. Also note the beading that has been added to any exposed edge to get through the SVA test.

Another ABS Freestyle

Here's another Freestyle, this one wasn't Funbuggies stand which means that they're getting everywhere!

Woo a fugitive!

We found only one Fugitive at the show - not a big suprise really. Even less of a suprise was not finding the Fugitive owners club. This year we couldn't even find the empty field to take a picture of!

I think it might be a golf... cart

I really don't have a clue what this is. It looks a bit like a cross between a golf cart and Fisher Price toy. Still it caught my attention so the piccies here. If it's your car then tell me all about it!

Dakars parked in a row

The Dakars were out in force again, and parked in two rows this year. Thanks for the comments in the guestbook from the Dakars owners club...

Dakars parked in another row

This is the other row. Whilst we were there they we re-arranging themselves again to go and share a site with the Rotrax owners. (Who'd got a better pitch)

A beach buggy

This was a nice buggy I saw - and that's all I know about it.

A beach buggy

But here it is again...

Rotrax

This is the Rotrax stand - with Dakars too. More crazy parking here, but I can't find the Rotrax website so there's no link. There was however lots of links to Dakar 4x4 Design & Conversions.

Rotrax

I happen to live within a five minute drive of Dakar 4x4 Design & Conversions so may well go and pay them a visit!

Blitz 4x4

The Blitz 4x4s were out in force too. There were three of them this year, last year we saw two and the year before only one. Next year I hope to see four.

Blitz 4x4

I've also seen these cars out on the road, and for sale on Ebay. Another popular 4x4 kit.

SCORR had a clash with one of their events this year so didn't attend the show.

Apart from all the little sports cars - complete with bored girl friends in the passenger seat - there seemed to be an increase in the 4x4 kits. I think this maybe down to the fact that a lot of them use the donor chassis and are therefore SVA exempt.

I succeeded in not spending more than my entrance fee - mainly because the cash point was out of order, but Alastair bought some very nice harnesses. You can see his buggy pictures here.
