Crazy Cam checks out... The National Kitcar Show 2005Yet another year, yet another kitcar show. It was at The Royal Agricultural Show Ground, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire on the 1st and 2nd of May. I went with my brother Alastair and our Dad on Sunday the 1st of May. By the power of mobile phones, my nice Bluetooth hands free kit and Multimap's excellent maps we managed to meet in the same car park again this year and within 10 minutes of each other! Over coffee we decided to follow the same plan as every year - do the halls with the trade stands in the morning and look at the cars in the afternoon after lunch. This is a Retoga from Kellforms. It's a little different from the average Lotus 7 clone you see here.
£455 + VAT will buy you this low-cost chassis from Lolocost. I think this is a real bargain when compared to some other kits...
£3000 + VAT will buy you this from Robin Hood Sports Cars. It's a Project 2B and only requires a Ford Sierra as a donor in addition to the kit. This is a kind of half way stage between the lolocost and the really expensive kits. £795.00 + VAT will buy you this ABS Freestyle chassis from Funbuggies. I like these and if I had the money I'd get one - or maybe two.
We particularly liked the spare wheel rack on this car. Also note the beading that has been added to any exposed edge to get through the SVA test.
Here's another Freestyle, this one wasn't Funbuggies stand which means that they're getting everywhere! The Dakars were out in force again, and parked in two rows this year. Thanks for the comments in the guestbook from the Dakars owners club...
This is the other row. Whilst we were there they we re-arranging themselves again to go and share a site with the Rotrax owners. (Who'd got a better pitch) This is the Rotrax stand - with Dakars too. More crazy parking here, but I can't find the Rotrax website so there's no link. There was however lots of links to Dakar 4x4 Design & Conversions.
I happen to live within a five minute drive of Dakar 4x4 Design & Conversions so may well go and pay them a visit! The Blitz 4x4s were out in force too. There were three of them this year, last year we saw two and the year before only one. Next year I hope to see four.
I've also seen these cars out on the road, and for sale on Ebay. Another popular 4x4 kit. SCORR had a clash with one of their events this year so didn't attend the show. Apart from all the little sports cars - complete with bored girl friends in the passenger seat - there seemed to be an increase in the 4x4 kits. I think this maybe down to the fact that a lot of them use the donor chassis and are therefore SVA exempt. I succeeded in not spending more than my entrance fee - mainly because the cash point was out of order, but Alastair bought some very nice harnesses. You can see his buggy pictures here. |
